Marriage to Art

Still committed to my creative desire.

Moved by personal reflection and a changing world, I conceived and executed a performance in which I "married art."

On October 16, 2001, dressed as my character cloudboy, I released a poem and secret message, written on rice paper with water soluble eco-friendly ink, into the Mississippi River in the state of Minnesota, USA. With the help of a photographer, we documented the event.

This act binds me to a life of creating art; as much as I can each day. As an artist, I believe it is my job to live life creatively and encourage others to follow their dreams.

How can I do this? For me, I answer this by making something. Sometimes it is art.

2005

On October 16, 2005, I went back to the river to repeat the performance. I renewed my vow with a new piece of personal writing, drawing another line on my artistic map. It was cathartic to renew my commitment in the same location. So much had changed since then, but they were still my hands putting the rice paper into the water.
